Lightweight and nimble motorcycles have always been the more fuel efficient alternative to cars. Electric motorcycles take environmentally friendly initiatives to the limit with zero emissions output and high performance. These green machines are much more sustainable options and can be loads of fun to drive.

Just like eco-friendly cars, electric motorcycles are eligible for the EV tax credit. In order to qualify they must have at least 2.5 kWh of battery power and they must be capable of reaching speeds of at least 45 miles per hour. This generous criteria means many electric motorcycles on the market will qualify for the credit.

Another benefit of electric motorcycles is that they require less maintenance. Without the moving parts of a combustion engine there is less to worry about. Most of the upkeep involved in owning an electric motorcycle involves the braking system and tires which is required by gas powered bikes as well.

Unlike their gas powered counterparts, electric motorcycles are almost exclusively fitted with automatic transmissions. The twist and go throttle is easier to operate and doesn’t require the rider to feather the clutch and shift gears. The simple operation is easy to learn and far less intimidating for beginning riders.

With so many benefits to electric motorcycles there is no reason not to go green. Jump head first into the world of eco-friendly cruising and check out our favorite electric motorcycles.
